## Corfe Castle railway station

Opened on 20 May 1885, Corfe Castle station was the sole intermediate stop on the London and South Western Railway's branch line from Wareham to Swanage. Its strategic location near the village centre facilitated passenger access and served as a vital link for transporting Purbeck Ball Clay and Purbeck Marble, essential local industries. The station's design featured a passing loop, accommodating the only passing point between Worgret Junction and Swanage. Despite its initial success, the decline of these industries and the rise of car travel led to the line's closure on 3 January 1972. Following a dedicated restoration effort, the station reopened on 12 August 1995 as part of the heritage Swanage Railway, preserving its historical significance and continuing to serve as a gateway to the Isle of Purbeck.
