In September 1944, as World War II intensified, Hottorf became a focal point for German defensive efforts. The village witnessed the arrival of soldiers and civilians tasked with constructing extensive fortifications, including tank ditches and bunkers, in anticipation of the advancing Allied forces. By mid-September, the first of these workers, known as "Schanzer," began digging trenches and fortifications, significantly altering the village's landscape. (chronik.hottorf.de)

On February 24, 1945, American infantry and tank battalions launched an assault on Hottorf from Boslar and Tetz. Despite encountering heavy fire from German anti-aircraft positions, the attackers overcame multiple lines of trenches and bunkers. By noon, only two operational tanks remained to support the infantry, leading to the village's capture with minimal resistance. (chronik.hottorf.de)

Post-war, Hottorf embarked on a path of reconstruction and renewal. The village's church, St. Georg, underwent significant restoration, with work commencing in the mid-1950s and culminating in its rededication in 1960. The community also focused on rebuilding homes and infrastructure, fostering a spirit of resilience and unity. (chronik.hottorf.de)

In 1969, Hottorf was incorporated into the city of Linnich, marking a new chapter in its administrative history. The village has since maintained its rural charm while embracing modern developments, reflecting a harmonious blend of tradition and progress. (linnich.de)

Today, Hottorf stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of its community, having navigated the challenges of war and reconstruction to emerge as a vibrant and cohesive village within the city of Linnich.
