## Arlington Mill, Bibury

Arlington Mill in Bibury, Gloucestershire, traces its origins to the Domesday Book of 1086, marking it as a significant site in the village's history. Originally serving as both a corn and fulling mill, it played a pivotal role in processing wool produced by local weavers. The cloth was hung to dry on Rack Isle, a meadow opposite the mill, before being sent to Arlington Mill for degreasing. (biburyheritage.org) In the 17th century, the mill underwent significant alterations, including the addition of two tall raking buttresses, to strengthen its structure. (geograph.org.uk) By the mid-19th century, the mill had ceased fulling operations and focused solely on corn milling until 1913. After its industrial use, Arlington Mill transitioned into a private residence and, for a time, housed a museum showcasing period clothing, documents, and working machinery that illustrated milling and Victorian life.
