## The New Inn, Gloucester
In 1553, the proclamation of Lady Jane Grey as Queen was announced from the gallery of the New Inn in Gloucester. Built between 1430 and 1450 by monk John Twyning, the New Inn was established as a hostelry for the Benedictine Abbey of St Peter, replacing an earlier inn on the site. It is renowned as the most complete surviving example of a medieval courtyard inn with galleries in Britain. Following the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539, the inn passed to the Dean and Chapter of Gloucester Cathedral and was leased to various innkeepers until its sale in 1858. Over the centuries, the New Inn has served as a public house, hotel, and restaurant, maintaining its historical significance and architectural integrity. (en.wikipedia.org)
