## Scotlandwell, Scotland

In 1858, Thomas Bruce of Arnot commissioned the construction of an ornamental well in Scotlandwell, using sandstone from local quarries. This well, completed at a cost of £154, was part of a broader village enhancement scheme that also included the building of a wash house in 1860. The wash house, an unusually elegant building for its purpose, was completed two years later, in 1860, for a total cost of £117. (wellwashhouse.co.uk) The well and wash house were inaugurated on 3rd July 1858, with great celebrations attended by everyone in Scotlandwell. (geograph.org.uk) These structures were handed over to the village in 1922 and have been owned by successive local authority bodies since then. (wellwashhouse.co.uk)
