## Place House, St Anthony-in-Roseland

Place House, situated in St Anthony-in-Roseland, Cornwall, stands on the site of a 12th-century Augustinian priory established by the Bishop of Exeter. Following the priory's dissolution in 1538, the estate was repurposed, with materials from the priory contributing to the construction of St Mawes Castle. In 1840, Sir Samuel Thomas Spry, Member of Parliament for Bodmin, commissioned the building of Place House in front of the existing church, resulting in the current structure that reflects French chateau architecture. The Spry family, who have resided on the estate for over four centuries, have been instrumental in its preservation and restoration. Notably, Sir Richard Spry (1715–1775), a distinguished naval officer, is commemorated within the church. Today, Place House remains a private residence and is occasionally used as a wedding venue.
