Wapping Old Stairs, a Grade II-listed structure, is a set of stone steps leading from Wapping High Street to the Thames foreshore. Dating back to the 16th century, these stairs were once part of a network of 'watermen's stairs' facilitating river access for passengers and cargo. The stairs are accessed through a narrow passage beside the Town of Ramsgate pub, a historic establishment dating back to the 16th century. (londonist.com) The area is also associated with the notorious Judge Jeffreys, who was captured here in 1688 while attempting to flee England. (countrylife.co.uk) Today, Wapping Old Stairs remains a poignant reminder of London's maritime heritage.
