## Rose and Crown, Enfield

The Rose and Crown in Enfield, dating back to 1700, is among the town's oldest inns. Situated at 185 Clay Hill, it was once owned by Mr. Nott, the grandfather of notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. Local legend suggests that Turpin used the pub as a hideout, and an iron ring on the front wall is believed to be where he tethered his horse, Black Bess. (francisfrith.com) The pub underwent a significant £350,000 refurbishment in late 2021, reopening in December 2021. (heineken.co.uk) It has since been recognised as "Best Pub in Enfield" in 2023 and 2024 by the Enfield Business Awards. (enfieldandbarnet.camra.org.uk)
