In 1926, Olive, Lady Baillie, an Anglo-American heiress, purchased Leeds Castle, initiating a comprehensive restoration that transformed it into a lavish country house. She engaged French interior designer Armand-Albert Rateau to refurbish the Gloriette and upper floors, infusing the castle with Art Deco elegance. Lady Baillie hosted numerous luminaries, including film stars and politicians, solidifying the castle's reputation as a premier social venue. Upon her death in 1974, she bequeathed the estate to the Leeds Castle Foundation, ensuring its preservation and public accessibility. Since 1976, the castle has welcomed visitors, offering a glimpse into its rich history and architectural grandeur. (leeds-castle.com)
