In 1882, Great Yarmouth's new Town Hall, designed by John Bond Pearce in the Queen Anne Revival style, was officially opened by the Prince of Wales. This followed the demolition of the previous 1716 Town Hall, which had been built on the quayside. The new building, constructed with terracotta facings, features an asymmetrical main frontage with seven bays and a 110-foot high clock tower. Internally, the assembly hall was described as "one of the finest interiors in Eastern England," reflecting the town's prosperity in the late 19th century. Despite initial subsidence issues due to its proximity to the River Yare, the Town Hall has continued to serve as the local seat of government, operating as the headquarters of Great Yarmouth County Borough Council and later the Great Yarmouth Borough Council.
