## Dorfold Hall
Dorfold Hall, a Grade I listed Jacobean mansion in Acton, Cheshire, was constructed between 1616 and 1621 for Ralph Wilbraham, following his acquisition of the estate in 1602. The hall's design features a symmetrical brick and stone façade, with diaper-brick decoration and a central great chamber. During the English Civil War, the estate suffered occupation and looting, particularly during the 1644 Royalist siege of nearby Nantwich. In 1754, the estate was sold to lawyer James Tomkinson, who modernized the house while preserving its original character. The Tollemache family later inherited the hall, and in 1861–1862, the grounds were remodeled, adding structures like the gate lodge. During World War II, the hall sheltered refugees and housed Canadian soldiers. In recent years, the estate has undergone significant restoration, blending its 400-year heritage with contemporary style, and now serves as a wedding and events venue. (countrylife.co.uk)
