High Street in Penrith, New South Wales, has long been the town's commercial heart. In 1971, the opening of Penrith Plaza, now known as Westfield Penrith, marked a significant development, featuring Myer as its lead tenant. (en.wikipedia.org) The 1980s saw High Street transformed into a pedestrian mall, officially opened on 16 November 1985 by Premier Neville Wran. This initiative aimed to revitalise the area but was met with mixed reactions and was reversed in September 1996, restoring vehicular access. (westernweekender.com.au) In 2019, the street underwent a comprehensive upgrade, enhancing outdoor dining spaces, improving accessibility, and introducing sustainable features, solidifying its role as Penrith's vibrant centre.
