Elliot Street in Liverpool has been a focal point of the city's commercial life since the early 20th century. Notably, it was the location of Blacklers, a prominent department store renowned for its elaborate Christmas grotto and the iconic rocking horse, Blackie, now preserved in the Museum of Liverpool. The store, which at its peak employed a thousand people, also has connections to The Beatles: George Harrison worked as an apprentice electrician at Blacklers in 1959, and Pete Best's mother, Mona, purchased his drum kit from the Blacklers music department. In 2015, Liverpool City Council initiated a £3 million project to enhance the pedestrianised area encompassing Parker Street, Elliot Street, and Houghton Street. The plan aimed to improve the quality of materials used for paving, enhance the landscape, and create a more attractive route for pedestrians. (goodnewsliverpool.co.uk)
Today, Elliot Street continues to be a vibrant part of Liverpool's city centre, reflecting the city's rich history and ongoing development.
