## Compton House, Liverpool
In 1865, a devastating fire destroyed the original Compton House, a prominent department store on Liverpool's Church Street. Rebuilt in 1867, the new structure was among Europe's first purpose-built department stores, boasting five floors and, at the time, the world's largest store. After its closure in 1871, the building transformed into the Compton Hotel, catering primarily to American guests and featuring 250 rooms along with various amenities. The hotel ceased operations in 1927, and in 1928, Marks & Spencer established their flagship store there, occupying the building until 2023. In January 2024, Frasers Group acquired the lease, continuing the site's legacy in Liverpool's retail history.
