In 1925, the Dock Office was constructed beside Trafford Road in Salford, designed by Harry Fairhurst and Son. This Grade II listed building, in a stripped classical style, features a central projecting bay with a full-height arched window. Adjacent to it stands a gateway, also by Fairhurst, that once provided access to the docks; the words "Manchester Docks" were inscribed across its top. On either side of the gateway are sculptural motifs of a ship's keel projecting from the stonework. (manchesterhistory.net)
