The most notable difference between the two images is the presence of modern pedestrians and street furniture in the contemporary photo, signalling a busier and more pedestrian-friendly area compared with the largely empty street of the old image. The architectural details of the Guildhall remain intact, with its distinctive arcaded façade and columns clearly preserved, though the stonework appears cleaner and less weathered in the modern photo despite visible staining. The adjacent buildings have stayed much the same in style and height, but the black-and-white image shows old-fashioned shop fronts with fabric awnings, whereas modern signage and glazing are evident in the current view. There is also a marked change in the street surface, now paved and featuring bollards, replacing the dirt or cobblestones seen before. Overall, the layout and core structures have endured with adaptations suited to present-day use.
