The then and now images of the Tam o’ Shanter Inn reveal several notable differences and continuities. The most prominent similarity is the building's distinctive thatched roof, which remains intact and visually consistent between the two photos. The inn’s signage has been modernised, but the name "Tam o’ Shanter Inn" is still clearly displayed above the doorway in the present-day image, though the modern sign includes additional gold lettering beneath the main title.
The entrance area has changed noticeably: the old photograph shows a more austere, plain façade with only a lantern hanging outside the door, while the modern image features a brightly painted door surround with decorative hanging baskets and a small, protruding sign above the doorway. Street-level activity differs significantly, with a police car parked in the modern scene and pedestrians not visible in the earlier image. The architecture of adjacent buildings appears largely unchanged, maintaining the narrow, old street atmosphere. The cobbled or stone-paved road of 1900 seems replaced by a smooth tarmac surface today.
