## J. M. Barrie's Birthplace

In 1860, J. M. Barrie was born in a modest cottage at 9 Brechin Road, Kirriemuir, Scotland. His father, David Barrie, was a handloom weaver, and the family lived in the upper floors while the weaving workshop occupied the ground floor. The adjacent wash-house, where Barrie and his friend James Robb staged early plays, is believed to have inspired the 'Wendy house' in "Peter Pan." (tes.com) After Barrie's death in 1937, the National Trust for Scotland acquired the property, preserving it as a museum that showcases his life and works.
