In 1929, the John S. Thompson Bridge, spanning the Maas River between Grave and Nederasselt, was completed as part of the main road connecting 's-Hertogenbosch and Nijmegen. During World War II, on 17 September 1944, Lieutenant John S. Thompson led a platoon of the 82nd Airborne Division in capturing the bridge from German forces, ensuring its strategic importance for the Allied advance. In 2004, the bridge was officially renamed in his honour. (en.wikipedia.org) Today, it continues to serve as a vital transport link, carrying provincial route N324. (iv.nl)
