A little history of Corfe Castle
Corfe Castle
Corfe Castle, located in Dorset, England, is a historic village renowned for its imposing castle ruins. The castle was constructed shortly after the Norman Conquest of 1066, strategically positioned atop a hill in a gap between the Purbeck Hills to control the route between Wareham and Swanage. Its strategic location made it a focal point during various historical events, including the English Civil War. In 1646, Parliamentary forces captured the castle, and it was subsequently demolished by order of Parliament. Despite its ruinous state, Corfe Castle remains a significant historical landmark, attracting visitors interested in its rich past.
