In 1405, the city council of Frankfurt acquired the "Haus zum Römer" and its neighbour, the "Goldener Schwan," transforming them into the city's town hall. Over the centuries, the complex expanded through the purchase and integration of additional neighbouring houses, eventually encompassing eleven interconnected buildings. This expansion led to a labyrinthine interior, as noted by historian Anton Kirschner in the early 19th century. (en.wikipedia.org) The Römer served as the venue for numerous imperial coronations, including that of Emperor Matthias in 1612. (mytuur.com) During World War II, the building was severely damaged in the 1944 Allied bombing raids. Post-war reconstruction efforts restored the Römer, preserving its historical significance as Frankfurt's civic centre. (frankfurt-interaktiv.de)
