## Northgate Museum

The North Gate in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, is the sole surviving remnant of the town's medieval fortifications. Constructed in 1265, it originally featured a small tower at each end, housing spiral staircases, with stone walls covered in wooden shingles and a central wooden tower atop the roof. (aboutbridgnorth.com) In the 1740s, the gate was rebuilt in brick, and in 1911, it was further remodelled with sandstone facing and added battlements. The upper room, once the Burgesses Hall where citizens presented annual payments, later served as a Blue Coat School for poor boys. In 1945, the Bridgnorth and District Historical Society established the Northgate Museum there, which has been open to the public since 1951. (aboutbridgnorth.com)
