## The Old Weavers House
The Old Weavers House in Canterbury, dating back to the 12th century, was a hub for Huguenot weavers in the 16th century. These skilled artisans, fleeing religious persecution, established their workshops along the River Stour, weaving fabrics like "Bayes and says" and "Grograines." The prosperity they brought to the city was acknowledged in 1574 by the magistrates of Canterbury. In 1899, Edith Holmes and Constance Philpot revived the craft by founding a weaving school for women and girls in need of work, operating until 1914. Today, the building houses the Weavers Restaurant, preserving its rich heritage. (weaversrestaurant.co.uk)
