In 1867, the Guest family of Canford Manor began constructing cottages to enhance the living conditions of their estate workers. These 111 cottages, known as Lady Wimborne Cottages, were predominantly built between 1870 and 1904. They are named after Cornelia Guest, Baroness Wimborne, who, as wife of Ivor Bertie Guest, 1st Baron Wimborne, oversaw the majority of their construction. (en.wikipedia.org) The cottages, designed in the Gothic Revival style by Charles Barry Jr., feature distinctive terracotta lancet windows and armorial panels bearing the Guest family's coat of arms. They are located across the original Canford estate, including areas such as Canford Magna, Ashington, Poole, Hamworthy, Lilliput, Longham, and Ferndown. Recognised for their historical significance, all the cottages are either Grade II Listed or Locally Listed. (en.wikipedia.org)
