## Kirby Muxloe Castle
In 1474, William, Lord Hastings, was granted permission by Edward IV to fortify four of his manors, including Kirby Muxloe. Construction began in 1480, transforming the existing manor into a moated quadrangular castle with four corner towers and a central courtyard. The project was abruptly halted in 1483 following Lord Hastings' execution for treason. Despite its incomplete state, the castle remained inhabited until around 1630, after which it fell into disrepair. Restoration efforts commenced in 1911, and today, the castle is managed by English Heritage, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past.
