## Ilam Hall

In 1821, Jesse Watts-Russell commissioned the construction of a new Ilam Hall, designed by John Shaw and built by James Trubshaw. The hall was completed in 1826, featuring a Gothic Revival style with Norman towers. (houseandheritage.org) The Watts-Russell family, wealthy industrialists, also transformed the village of Ilam, constructing Swiss-style cottages and rebuilding the village between 1821 and 1826. The remaining parts of the hall have been used as a youth hostel since then. (nationaltrust.org.uk)
