## Huer's Hut, Newquay

Perched atop Towan Head in Newquay, Cornwall, the Huer's Hut has been a sentinel since at least the 14th century. Originally, it may have served as a hermitage or lighthouse, guiding ships into the harbour. By the 16th century, it became a vital lookout for pilchard shoals, with the 'huer' alerting fishermen by shouting "Hevva, Hevva!" and directing them using gorse bushes. The current structure, restored in 1836, is a Grade II* listed building. In 2014, a £30,000 restoration funded by Cornwall Council and public donations, including £8,000 from TV presenter Philip Schofield, ensured its preservation.
