In 1805, Horse Guards Parade hosted its first Trooping the Colour ceremony, marking the monarch's official birthday. This annual event has since become a cornerstone of British ceremonial life. The adjacent Horse Guards building, completed in 1759, served as the British Army's headquarters until 1872. Notably, the Duke of Wellington, then Commander-in-Chief, had his office and living quarters there. In the late 20th century, the parade ground was controversially used as a car park for senior civil servants, a practice that ended in 1997 following security concerns. (en.wikipedia.org) Today, Horse Guards Parade remains a vibrant symbol of London's rich military heritage.
