In 1702, Fleet Street became the birthplace of the British daily press with the publication of the *Daily Courant*, the nation's first daily newspaper. This marked the beginning of Fleet Street's association with journalism and the printing industry. The street's prominence in the media landscape continued into the 20th century, housing the offices of major newspapers such as *The Times*, *Daily Express*, and *The Daily Telegraph*. However, in the 1980s, the newspaper industry began relocating to new premises, and by 2016, the last journalists left Fleet Street when the *Sunday Post* closed its London office.
