## Canonbury Tower
Canonbury Tower, constructed between 1509 and 1532, is Islington's oldest surviving building. Originally part of a manor house for the Augustinian canons of St Bartholomew's Priory, it became a country retreat for Thomas Cromwell in 1539. Subsequent notable residents included Sir Francis Bacon and Oliver Goldsmith. In the 20th century, the tower served as a community centre and was home to the Tavistock Theatre Company until 2003. Today, it stands as a Grade II* listed building, reflecting its rich history and architectural significance. (islingtonmagazine.com)
