## Restoration House
In 1660, Restoration House in Rochester, Kent, hosted King Charles II on the eve of his restoration to the English throne. Originally two medieval buildings from 1454 and 1502–22, they were joined between 1640 and 1660 to form a larger mansion. The first owner of the completed house was Henry Clerke, a lawyer and Rochester MP. During the Civil War, the house was seized by Parliament and occupied by Colonel Gibbon. After the monarchy's restoration, the house was refurbished to receive Charles II, featuring continental-style decorations. In the late 19th century, Stephen T. Aveling owned the house and documented its history. In 1986, entertainer Rod Hull purchased and restored the property, saving it from being turned into a car park. Today, Restoration House remains a Grade I listed building, open to the public during the summer months. (en.wikipedia.org)
