## St Michael's Church, Mere
St Michael's Church in Mere, Wiltshire, traces its origins to a Saxon church recorded in 1091. The current structure predominantly dates from the 15th century, featuring a 38-metre-high tower with tall pinnacles that dominate the town's skyline. The north chapel, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, was established around 1325, while the south chapel, known as St Matthew's Chapel, was added circa 1350 by Sir John Bettesthorne. Bettesthorne's memorial brass, dating from 1398, is set into the floor of the chapel he founded. The church's interior boasts a 15th-century parclose screen, carved Jacobean pews, an alabaster tablet from 1375, and medieval stained glass in the south chapel. (britainexpress.com)
