## Greensted Church
In 1013, the body of Saint Edmund, King of East Anglia, rested at Greensted Church while en route to Bury St Edmunds for reburial. This event underscores the church's historical significance. The current structure, dedicated to St Andrew, is renowned as the world's oldest wooden church, with its nave dating from around 1060. Archaeological excavations beneath the chancel have revealed earlier timber buildings from the 6th and 7th centuries, indicating continuous Christian worship on this site since the late Saxon period. Over the centuries, the church has undergone various restorations, including significant work in the Victorian era and the re-shingling of the spire in 2005. Today, Greensted Church remains an active place of worship and a testament to England's rich ecclesiastical heritage.
