In 1928, the Liverpool Corporation purchased Speke Hall and its estate from the Watt family for £200,000, aiming to develop a self-contained satellite town. This initiative led to the construction of factories, housing estates, and the establishment of Speke Airport between 1930 and 1933. By the late 1930s, the airport featured a distinctive passenger terminal, control tower, and two large aircraft hangars. During World War II, it was requisitioned by the Royal Air Force and known as RAF Speke. (en.wikipedia.org)
