## Horse & Groom, Guildford
The Horse & Groom, located at 9 North Street, Guildford, was a 19th-century public house that gained notoriety due to the tragic events of 5 October 1974. On that evening, the Provisional IRA detonated a bomb at the pub, targeting British Army personnel frequenting the establishment. The explosion resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including four soldiers and one civilian, and left over sixty others injured. (en.wikipedia.org)
Following the bombing, the pub was repaired and reopened but eventually closed in 1992. Subsequently, the building was repurposed as a soft furnishings store. Today, the site remains a poignant reminder of a dark chapter in Guildford's history, with a memorial plaque commemorating the victims of the bombing.
