A little history of Almshouses

Linton Almshouses

The Linton Almshouses, located in the village of Linton, Kent, were established in 1610 by Sir Anthony Mayne to provide housing for four poor estate workers' families and widows. In 1749, Robert Mann rebuilt them, adding distinctive gables and finials, and increased the stipends for each family. By 1971, the almshouses underwent further renovations, creating an additional house and modifying architectural features. Today, they consist of five one-bedroom cottages, each with a small garden, and are managed by a charitable trust. The almshouses are a Grade II listed building, reflecting their architectural and historical significance.
