## Ye Olde King's Head, Chigwell
Ye Olde King's Head, located on Chigwell High Road, is a Grade II* listed building with origins dating back to 1547. This historic inn, constructed during the reign of Henry VIII, has undergone several extensions in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Facing St Mary's Church, it gained literary fame as the inspiration for the Maypole Inn in Charles Dickens' 1841 novel, "Barnaby Rudge." Dickens described it as "such a delicious old inn opposite the churchyard," highlighting its picturesque setting. In the 1820s, Mary Draper operated a daily coach service from the pub to Aldgate, underscoring its role as a central hub in Chigwell. By 2011, the establishment transitioned from a pub to a Turkish restaurant named Sheesh, offering a unique dining experience in its historic surroundings. (the-independent.com)
