In 1867, Ware's Town Hall at 8 West Street was constructed, featuring a public hall and meeting rooms behind an early 18th-century house. Originally intended as a Corn Exchange, the venture failed in 1875. The following year, the building was acquired by the Ware Town Hall and Assembly Rooms Company, and the Urban District Council began renting rooms there for its offices and meetings. In 1920, the council secured a 999-year lease for Ware Priory, a 14th-century Franciscan friary, which then became its primary meeting place. Most of the original Town Hall was demolished in the 1950s, leaving only the original house, now known as Rankin House. (en.wikipedia.org)
