Between 1518 and 1521, Sir Thomas Lovell, Treasurer of Lincoln's Inn, funded and supervised the construction of the Gatehouse on Chancery Lane. This four-storey tower, built with bricks made on-site, features diagonal rows of darker bricks and oak gates dating from 1564. Lovell's coat of arms adorns the gate, alongside those of the Earl of Lincoln and Henry VIII. Restored in 1695 and again between 1967 and 1969, the Gatehouse remains the oldest surviving part of the Inn. (lincolnsinn.org.uk)
