In 1896, Princess Beatrice, Queen Victoria's youngest daughter, became Governor of the Isle of Wight and made Carisbrooke Castle her residence. She initiated significant restorations, including the creation of a garden within the castle walls. Princess Beatrice resided there during most summers between 1913 and 1944, leaving a lasting impact on the castle's appearance. (english-heritage.org.uk)
