In the mid-19th century, 'Clifton', a stone house, was constructed on Peel Street, Kirribilli, possibly in the 1840s or 1850s. The property was owned by Merion Moriarty, Harbourmaster for Port Jackson from 1842 to 1857, and later by William Tucker. In 1861, Rachel Henning described the area as "such beautiful views from all the windows," highlighting the scenic vistas of the harbour. (athomeinnorthsydney.com.au)
