Muncaster Castle, perched above the River Esk near Ravenglass in Cumbria, has been the Pennington family's home since at least 1208. The castle's origins trace back to a 14th-century pele tower, a defensive structure unique to the English-Scottish border region. In the 19th century, architect Anthony Salvin extensively remodelled the castle, enhancing its grandeur. During World War II, the Penningtons safeguarded approximately 700 artworks from the Tate Gallery, including pieces by Turner, Manet, and Van Gogh.
