In the late 14th century, Thaxted's Guildhall was constructed on Town Street, serving as a hub for the Guild of Cutlers. This timber-framed building, erected between 1390 and 1410, featured a ground floor used for markets and included a parish lock-up for petty criminals. (historicengland.org.uk) The Guildhall's design reflects the town's medieval prosperity, particularly during its cutlery industry's peak. Over time, Town Street has evolved, with many of its timber-framed buildings now listed for their historical significance. (thaxted-pc.gov.uk)
