## Battle Abbey Gatehouse
In 1338, during the Hundred Years' War, Battle Abbey's Great Gatehouse was constructed, featuring crenellations and arrow slits, reflecting the abbey's defensive role. (english-heritage.org.uk) This gatehouse, one of the finest in England, served as the main entrance and housed lodgings for important visitors. (historicengland.org.uk) After the abbey's dissolution in 1538, the gatehouse remained intact, and in 1922, it became the main entrance to Battle Abbey School. (en.wikipedia.org) Today, it stands as a prominent feature of the town, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past.
