In 1819, poet John Keats stayed at Eglantine Cottage in Pomona Road, one of only two lodging houses in Shanklin at the time. (visitshanklin.co.uk) This period marked the beginning of Shanklin's transformation from a remote fishing village to a fashionable seaside resort. The Old Village, nestled at the head of Shanklin Chine, features thatched cottages and narrow lanes that have changed little over the past two centuries. Today, it remains a picturesque area, offering visitors a glimpse into the town's rich history and charm. (thetraveler.org)
