In 2005, London secured the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games, prompting a comprehensive redevelopment of the Lower Lea Valley. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), established in April 2006, spearheaded the transformation of this 2.5-square-kilometre industrial wasteland into the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The project involved extensive soil decontamination, removal of 52 electricity pylons, and the construction of new infrastructure, including roads and bridges. Notably, the London Aquatics Centre, designed by Zaha Hadid, became a community hub post-Games, hosting over two million visitors since its 2014 reopening. The Olympic Village was converted into the East Village neighbourhood, providing over 2,800 homes. By 2020, the park had evolved into a vibrant area, featuring residential units, commercial spaces, and cultural venues, with plans for further development extending to 2030.
