## Royal Baths, Harrogate
In 1897, Harrogate's Royal Baths opened as a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy centre, embodying the town's ambition to become England's premier spa destination. Designed by London architects Baggallay and Bristowe, the baths featured Victorian Turkish facilities with Moorish-style arches, columns, and vibrant glazed brickwork. The complex offered treatments for conditions like rheumatism and arthritis, attracting a diverse clientele, including royalty and the aristocracy. In August 1898, the baths administered 18,723 treatments, highlighting their popularity. The National Health Service operated the baths from 1946 until 1969, after which the facility declined, with only the Turkish Baths remaining operational. A major refurbishment in the early 2000s restored the baths to their former glory, preserving their status as the only fully operational Victorian Turkish baths in England. (harrogate-magazine.com)
