In 1964, Reverend Ted Noffs established the Wayside Chapel at 29 Hughes Street, Potts Point, Sydney, within a modest apartment block. Initially, it comprised a single room with a dozen chairs, serving as a sanctuary and community space. Over the next few years, the chapel expanded to include a coffee shop, crisis centre, and the first office of the Foundation for Aboriginal Affairs. By the end of the 1960s, it had become a vital institution in Sydney, offering support to those in need. (waysidechapel.org.au)

In 2004, Reverend Graham Long took over the leadership, initiating a significant redevelopment of the chapel. By 2012, a new building was completed, featuring a community service centre, café, and dedicated spaces for various programs, including support for individuals with long-term mental health issues.
