In 1904, Augustus van Horne Stuyvesant, a descendant of New Netherland's director-general Peter Stuyvesant, built a private residence at 3 East 57th Street. This site was previously part of "Marble Row," a group of houses constructed between 1868 and 1870. By 1921, art galleries began replacing residences on East 57th Street, transforming it into a cultural hub. As the area commercialised, Stuyvesant relocated to 2 East 79th Street in 1930, leasing his property to the Starrett Investing Corporation in 1929. (en.wikipedia.org)
