In 1892, Edward Doheny's well in Echo Park yielded 45 barrels of oil daily, igniting California's first oil boom. By 1895, the Los Angeles City Oil Field produced over half of the state's oil. At its peak in 1901, approximately 200 companies operated here. Today, the area is densely urbanised, with only one active well remaining, producing about 3.5 barrels per day. (aegsc.org)
